Detect Early Aneurysms and Hemorrhages For A Better Life
Aneurysms and hemorrhages, they’re scary words. But what if they didn’t have to be? Through our Full Body MRI screening, Elysian Health is able to detect early aneurysms and hemorrhages, determining the size in order to create the best course of treatment.
Understanding Aneurysms and Hemorrhages
Aneurysms happen when the pressure of blood passing through has forced a weakened part of the artery to balloon outward or when the blood vessel wall is weakened for a different reason. They have a variety of causes including high blood pressure and atherosclerosis, trauma, heredity, and abnormal blood flow at the junction where arteries come together. Warning signs and symptoms include:
Sudden and severe headache
Nausea/vomiting
Stiff neck
Blurred or double vision
Sensitivity to light
Seizure
Drooping eyelid
A dilated pupil
Hemorrhages can happen from injuries, such as cuts or puncture wounds, bone fractures or traumatic brain injury. Violence, such as a gunshot or knife wound, or physical abuse can also be a factor.
Signs of incredibly severe hemorrhage include:
Very low blood pressure
Rapid heart rate
Sweaty, wet skin that often feels cool to the touch
Little or no urine
Vomiting blood
Loss of consciousness
Leakage of blood from the eyes, ears, or nose
Organ failure
Know Your Risks
MRI has the ability to detect early aneurysms and hemorrhages, determining the size and course of treatment. Having this proactive information aids patients in taking preventative measures to treat the issue.
Detailed imaging allows us to characterize the pathology of the aneurysm or hemorrhage.
If a diagnosis is made, more detailed imaging will take place to determine if an aneurysm coil is needed to prevent rupture or if blood thinners are sufficient. Your doctor may also choose to monitor the existing aneurysm through follow-up MRIs.
Preventative information helps you and your doctors to make informed decisions about your treatment plans. Equipped with a Siemens machine, Elysian Health offers the latest technology to complete your scan faster and with more accurate results. The only MRI machine like this in B.C., and one of two in Canada, Siemens is the leader in scanning technology. Our wide bore scanner makes the scan an easy and comfortable experience.
